Top Social Media Spaces For Book Promotion

You've written your book and published it but the money isn't coming in and you probably don't have enough money for paid Ads and book influencers.

Do you know that you can be your own influencer? Save the money you don't have and spend time instead marketing your book on specific social media spaces/communities that would introduce your books to an international audience.

Social Media Platforms That Are Pro-Writers

X (formerly known as Twitter), Facebook and LinkedIn are a writer's best friend. So how can you use them?

• Create personal profiles on X, Facebook and LinkedIn. Write captivating bios with links to your website or Author's page on your publishing platform.

• Join spaces dedicated to arts and writers on X and write about your latest books with links to your books. Avoid tagging people or using more than 2 hashtags as X could reduce your account's visibility.

Diversify your content, write about your fears, failures, drop a meme, a funny video link with a caption to get users curious about you which would result in them checking your profile and engaging with the links on your bio.

Top spaces for writers on X include: Book Lovers, The Writing Room, and Classic Literature Club. Users in these spaces do not post regularly and some post can be visible for 2-4 days without a new post using it down the wall. The good thing is that such slow activity ensures your post stays visible for days before it loses its spot.

• Join multiple Facebook groups relevant to writing, blogging, book promotions etc. Comment on others' posts, and like their content. Most often than not, your reactions on others' posts on these Facebook groups, is reciprocated.

Remember, everyone is posting about their book, be different, write something helpful and interesting while including links to your books. Sometimes the best advertisement  strategy is an indirect one that draws in the target audience subtly.

On Facebook, it's called "groups". Simply type in a keyword to search for groups relevant to you, join and start posting. There are hundreds of such groups on Facebook,  join as much as you can and crosspost your Facebook post on several of these groups at once by indicating "share to groups" before publishing your posts.

• LinkedIn also has niche spaces (communities). Posting on your LinkedIn page would only get views when you have a lot of connections. Who do you want to view your books? Send connection requests to people from the countries or region you are targeting for your book.

Segment your target audience.  You don't want to have undergraduates dominating your LinkedIn network if your target audience for instance are, CEOs, Nursing mothers, or investors.

Identify your audience, send them connection requests. That way when you post about your books, you would be likely to get buyers from your LinkedIn network.

LinkedIn spaces also allows you to make a certain number of posts per week and with thousands of subscribers in each space, you're more likely to get the awareness your books need. Avoid being spammy with the same kind of direct marketing posts.

You're a writer, create different interesting posts on LinkedIn spaces which would make people follow you on LinkedIn because they don't want to miss when your next post drops. Study content  structure on LinkedIn, use more spacing and fewer words that gets your point across beautifully. Long posts don't work on LinkedIn.

Also, emojis makes your posts user friendly on LinkedIn so, incorporate them in your articles on LinkedIn spaces but don't over do it. Finally, it's best to post every two days. If you post too often, you'll saturate your readers and if you post too little, you'll get forgotten.

Top spaces for writers on LinkedIn: Self Published and Indie Authors Networking Group, Book Writing, Self Publishing and Marketing, The Writer's Network,  Writer's Hangout,  Working Writer's, Writer's and Authors, Creative Writers, Artists and Designers. Simply search for them and more on LinkedIn.

Timing Tips For Your Social Media Posts

Implementing these strategies would give you an edge over other writers but timing is also a key factor to consider. Based on research, posting at 7am, 10am, 12pm, 4:30pm will give you better results as at:

• 7am: Most people are starting their day and going through their social media profiles quickly for interesting information. This is the best time for your posts to appear on their feed.

• 10am: this works best for posts made on weekends.

• 12pm: Perfect time for your target audience to discover your posts in their social media feeds while on lunch breaks.

• 4:30pm: they are searching their social media feeds while waiting for the bus after work or checking for something to keep them busy while they're on the bus.  The point is that, most workplaces close by this time which means your potential has more free time and you want to catch them while they're at it.

Conclusion

A personal social media profile would allow you to build your personal brand, say anything you want and post more creatively.
